
How to Change a Toilet Flapper

The flapper‘s job is to create a seal that keeps the water in the tank until you pull the lever to flush. The easiest way to tell if you need a new flapper? When the toilet is constantly running!
Take a photo of the current flapper and head to the hardware store so you can be sure you get the right size and shape!
Turn off the water to the toilet by turning the water valve clockwise. Flush to release any water left in the tank.
Disconnect the chain that links the flush lever to the flapper. Unhook the flapper from the two mount pegs that are holding it in place.
Connect the new flapper to the two mount pegs, positioning it over the drain. Connect the new chain to the flush lever.
Try the flush lever to make sure the new flapper has the correct range of motion; you may need to adjust the chain connection.
